Who knew a can of chickpeas could lead to so much fun? Aquafaba—a fancy name for the liquid from canned chickpeas—makes for an incredibly fun, fluffy, and taste-safe sensory activity that will keep your little one engaged from start to finish!
Ingredients:
2 cans of chickpeas
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
Food coloring (optional)
Instructions:
1. Drain chickpea liquid into a large bowl.
2. Add 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar into the bowl.
3. Whip ingredients with a mixer on high until soft peaks form (about 4 minutes).
4. Add food colouring to colour chickpea foam. Briefly mix the colour in to incorporate.
My big explorer decided to set up his very own ice cream shop, and with aquafaba as the base, his creativity took over. Mixing, scooping, decorating, and serving up pretend sundaes allowed his imagination to flourish while strengthening important skills along the way.
Aquafaba sensory play is fantastic for:
Colour Recognition – Add a few drops of food colouring to create a swirl of vibrant “flavours.”
Fine Motor Skills – Scooping, pouring, and decorating helps strengthen little hands.
Imaginary Play – Encourages creativity and role-playing, whether as an ice cream vendor or a master chef!
This activity is completely taste-safe, making it ideal for younger children who love to explore with all their senses.
